Basecut turns a card dump into a culled, color-prepped project for DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro overnight, for wedding and event filmmakers on Mac and Windows
Basecut in one minute.
What it does with a shoot: picks the keepers, fixes the color for each camera, and sends it all to your editor.
0 clips.
0.00 TB. One you need.
Six cameras, three days, a folder you'll never scrub by hand. The shot is in there. Somewhere. Good luck.

It watches every frame
Argus, Basecut's own AI, runs on your own computer (Mac or Windows). It sorts and culls by what actually happens in the shot, then Basecut builds a per-camera log-to-Rec.709 color correction for every clip. Basecut Cloud is an optional, faster engine on paid plans.
Open it in your editor
One click opens a ranked, color-prepped project in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro: heroes, keepers, and skips already binned, with ratings and markers. ALE and FCPXML export work for other editors.
A Resolve project.
Culled, color-matched,
ready to cut.
Heroes, keepers, maybes, skips: already binned. Flat log already pushed to Rec.709, every camera matched. A Resolve project with bins and the grade applied per clip, plus per-clip CDL and a show LUT that travel with the footage, and FCPXML, EDL and ALE for Premiere, FCP and Avid.
What lands in DaVinci ResolveAI to amplify your craft,
not replace it.
Basecut doesn't make the creative calls. It clears the hours of sorting, culling, and color prep, so you spend yours on the work only you can do.
Found in one second.
Search is the bonus, not the pitch. Long after the wedding is delivered, every clip is still findable by what happened in it.
Two cameras. One Saturday. A full card.
Runs natively on Mac and Windows. New in Basecut 4.0: Argus, Basecut’s own AI, labels your footage privately on your computer, free. Paid plans add Basecut Cloud, the fastest way to label footage, with a monthly allowance; when it runs out, Argus takes over. Your footage, your call.
Works with the cameras you shoot
“I shoot cars and bikes on Sony out of pure passion, and the grind after a shoot was turning that passion into a chore. Basecut ranks my keepers and hands me a color-prepped DaVinci Resolve project, S-Log3 already handled. Honestly one of the coolest tools I've ever used. It keeps the passion from becoming tedious.”

Argus, Basecut’s own AI, runs the analysis on your computer and sends no footage anywhere. It needs an Apple Silicon Mac with 16 GB of memory or more, or a Windows PC with an NVIDIA GPU with 10 GB or more of video memory. On other computers, use Basecut Cloud (paid plans) or your own Gemini key.
The Windows installer is code-signed by verified publisher Jonathan Wiltshire. SmartScreen may still show a first-time notice while our new certificate builds reputation; check the publisher name, click More info, then Run anyway. Every release’s SHA-256 is published at basecut.app/version.json so you can verify the download.

The short version.
- What it is
- A desktop app for Mac and Windows. It watches and listens to every clip in a card dump, ranks each one as a hero, keeper, maybe, or skip, tags it by what happens in the shot, and builds a sorted, color-prepped project for your editor.
- Who it is for
- Wedding and event filmmakers who shoot with more than one camera and edit in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro.
- Platforms
- macOS and Windows.
- Where the AI runs
- On your computer. Argus, Basecut's own AI, analyzes footage on your machine and sends no footage anywhere. It needs an Apple Silicon Mac with 16 GB of memory or more, or a Windows PC with an NVIDIA graphics card with 10 GB or more of video memory. Paid plans also include Basecut Cloud, a faster option that sends reduced-size clips to Google Gemini through Basecut's server, with a monthly allowance. You can use your own Google Gemini key instead.
- Works with
- One click opens a run in DaVinci Resolve (free or Studio), Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro, with clips in bins or keyword collections with their ratings and markers. ALE and FCPXML export also work for other editors.
- Color
- A per-camera log-to-Rec.709 correction, matched across cameras. In DaVinci Resolve Studio it is applied to every clip. In free Resolve, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro, each clip comes with a .cube file that carries the same correction, ready to apply. Log profiles are detected automatically, including Sony S-Log3, Apple Log, Canon C-Log2 and C-Log3, Panasonic V-Log, DJI D-Log, Fujifilm F-Log2, GoPro Protune, ARRI LogC, and RED Log3G10. Basecut corrects color. It does not apply a creative grade.
- Price
- Free 14 days, 5 free exports, no card. Monthly $9.99 while founder spots last, then $19.99. Annual $99. Lifetime $149.99 while founder spots last, then $249. Every purchase has a 30-day money-back guarantee. At 20 weddings a year, the annual plan works out to about $5 a wedding.
- How it differs
- Basecut works first, on the raw card dump, before editing starts. In one pass on your computer it culls, ranks, tags, and color-prepares every clip, and its search covers your whole library. Your original files are never uploaded.
- Not supported yet
- Native ARRIRAW and REDCODE R3D files.
Everything you’d ask before you trust it with a shoot.
How much does the AI cost to run?
Nothing extra. Argus, Basecut's own AI, runs on your computer with no key and no per-project fee. Paid plans also include Basecut Cloud, a faster option with a monthly allowance. If you prefer, you can add your own Google Gemini key instead and pay Google directly at their API rates.
Does it work offline?
The analysis can run on your computer. Argus does the whole job locally, so your footage never leaves your machine. It needs a one-time download of about 6 GB, and the app still checks your account and updates online. Argus needs an Apple Silicon Mac with 16 GB of memory or more, or a Windows PC with an NVIDIA graphics card with 10 GB or more of video memory. On other computers, use Basecut Cloud (included with paid plans) or your own Gemini key.
What footage formats does Basecut support?
Most camera mp4, mov, and mxf: Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Fujifilm, DJI, Apple, GoPro, and Insta360 all get first-class per-camera handling, including ProRes (ARRI ALEXA ProRes too), ProRes RAW, and BRAW on Mac. Common log profiles are auto-detected, and a visual classifier covers anything it doesn't recognize. Native ARRIRAW and REDCODE R3D aren't supported yet.
Does it auto-grade my footage?
It color-corrects, not color-grades. Every clip gets a per-camera log-to-Rec.709 transform: predictable, inspectable, and reversible. The creative grade stays yours. No black-box AI deciding how your footage should look.
Does it work with DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, FCP, or Avid?
Yes. One click opens a run in DaVinci Resolve (free or Studio), Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro, with clips in bins or keyword collections with their ratings and markers. The Basecut Grade OFX plugin applies your per-clip grades live on the Resolve color page (works in free Resolve), and with Resolve Studio one click builds a graded project: bins, timelines, grades applied. ALE and FCPXML export also work, so Avid and other editors can ingest the metadata too.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, anytime, no questions asked. Your local data stays yours. The library you built in Basecut is just files on your disk.
How is this different from cloud AI editors?
Cloud tools upload your footage to their servers and keep it there. With Argus, Basecut's own AI, the analysis runs on your computer and sends no footage anywhere. Basecut Cloud is optional and comes with paid plans: it sends reduced-size video or still frames and audio, section by section, through Basecut's server to Google's Gemini API, and the privacy page lists exactly what is sent. Either way your library stays as plain files you own, not rows in someone else's cloud.
Is my footage used to train your AI?
We never train on your footage, and with Argus your footage never leaves your machine. Basecut does send anonymous usage and crash diagnostics (on by default, with no footage, filenames, or personal data, and a single switch to turn it off in Settings) so we can fix bugs and improve. If you use Basecut Cloud or your own Gemini key, the clips you send are processed by Google's Gemini API, and the privacy page explains how each route is handled.
