- A desktop app for Mac and Windows. It watches and listens to every clip in a card dump, ranks each one as a hero, keeper, maybe, or skip, tags it by what happens in the shot, and builds a sorted, color-prepped project for your editor.

- Where the AI runs
- On your computer. Argus, Basecut's own AI, analyzes footage on your machine and sends no footage anywhere. It needs an Apple Silicon Mac with 16 GB of memory or more, or a Windows PC with an NVIDIA graphics card with 10 GB or more of video memory. Paid plans also include Basecut Cloud, a faster option that sends reduced-size clips to Google Gemini through Basecut's server, with a monthly allowance. You can use your own Google Gemini key instead.
- Works with
- One click opens a run in DaVinci Resolve (free or Studio), Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro, with clips in bins or keyword collections with their ratings and markers. ALE and FCPXML export also work for other editors.
- Auto Edit
- Type what you want, such as "a 60 second wedding highlight" or "a vertical vlog", and Basecut builds a first cut from one or more analyzed shoots (up to 12 per chat). You change it by chatting ("make it 3 minutes", "swap the opening shot") or with style dials for pacing, how much talking to keep, and music you pick. Cuts come out with music under the voice, fades and dissolves, and word captions. It is a rough cut to finish, not a final film. It plans the cut with your own Google Gemini key if you add one, otherwise on your computer.
- Editor
- A multi-track timeline inside Basecut: cut, trim, ripple, markers, titles, transitions, effects, captions, a mixer, and undo, with export to a video file and a render queue. Auto edits also export as FCPXML (Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve) and as Premiere Pro XML.
- Color
- A per-camera log-to-Rec.709 correction, matched across cameras. In DaVinci Resolve Studio it is applied to every clip. In free Resolve, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro, each clip comes with a .cube file that carries the same correction, ready to apply. Log profiles are detected automatically, including Sony S-Log3, Apple Log, Canon C-Log2 and C-Log3, Panasonic V-Log, DJI D-Log, Fujifilm F-Log2, GoPro Protune, ARRI LogC, and RED Log3G10. Basecut corrects color. It does not apply a creative grade.

- Basecut works first, on the raw card dump, before editing starts. In one pass on your computer it culls, ranks, tags, and color-prepares every clip, and its search covers your whole library. Then it can cut a first draft from those picks. Your original files are never uploaded.
