An Imagen Video alternative that keeps your wedding footage on your computer
Imagen Video is a cloud service that color-grades video for Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, and its video page lists a beta Assistant Editor that sorts wedding clips after you upload your footage. Basecut does that stage of the work on your own computer. It ranks every clip hero, keeper, maybe or skip, tags it by what happens in the shot, corrects log footage to Rec.709 per camera, matches color across cameras, and opens the result in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
Basecut is our product. Last checked 2026-10-10.
Basecut: cull, rank and color-prep on your computer
Basecut culls a whole shoot into hero, keeper, maybe and skip, tags each clip by what happens in the shot, corrects log footage to Rec.709 per camera and matches color across cameras. One click then opens the project in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, with clips in bins or keyword collections with their ratings and markers. In DaVinci Resolve Studio the correction is applied to every clip. In Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro each clip comes with a .cube file that carries it.
It runs on your own computer. Argus, Basecut's own AI, needs an Apple Silicon Mac with 16 GB of memory or more, or a Windows PC with an NVIDIA graphics card with 10 GB or more of video memory. Other computers can use Basecut Cloud on paid plans or your own Gemini key, which send short reduced-size sections to Google. Original files are never uploaded. Pricing is $9.99 a month while founder spots last, then $19.99, $99 a year, or $149.99 lifetime while founder spots last, then $249, with a 14-day trial and 5 free exports. At 20 weddings a year, the annual plan works out to about $5 a wedding.
What Imagen Video does, from its own pages
Imagen's video page describes adaptive AI color grading. You export your sequence from Premiere Pro, process it through Imagen Video and import the graded result back. The page names Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve as the editors it works with and does not name Final Cut Pro. Its FAQ says your videos are stored on AWS servers and used for your projects within Imagen Video.
The page also lists an Assistant Editor, labeled beta. You choose Weddings, pick Assistant Editor and upload your footage, and it sorts every clip and surfaces the most recommended shots into a project you open in your editor. Imagen's pricing page lists pay-as-you-go at $1 a minute, invoiced monthly, and a Starter Pack at $30 a month that includes 50 minutes, with extra minutes at $0.60 each. Both are labeled launch rate (imagen-ai.com/video and imagen-ai.com/video/pricing, read 2026-10-10).

Which one to use
For a wedding or event shoot, use Basecut. It is the one built for the raw card dump: it culls, ranks and color-preps the footage on your own computer before you edit, it opens straight into the editor you already use, and your original files stay where they are. Imagen Video is a cloud service that, per its FAQ, stores your videos on AWS servers, and it bills by the minute.
Run your own footage through Basecut
The only real test is your own card dump. Run a real wedding through Basecut for free and judge the cull and the color before you pay. For a walkthrough of the AI cull itself, see How to cull wedding footage with AI, step by step.
Questions people ask
What is the best Imagen Video alternative for wedding video?
Basecut. It is built for the raw card dump of a wedding or event shoot. What is Imagen Video?
Imagen's video page describes it as adaptive AI color grading. You export a sequence from Premiere Pro, process it through the service and import the graded result back, and the page names Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve as the editors it works with. The page also lists an Assistant Editor, labeled beta, that sorts wedding clips after you upload your footage (imagen-ai.com/video, read 2026-10-10).
Is it the same Imagen Video that Google announced?
No. Google's Imagen Video is a 2022 research paper on a system that generates video from a text prompt (arXiv 2210.02303). It is not a tool for sorting or grading footage you shot. The Imagen Video on this page is the editing product from Imagen's own site.
Does Imagen Video upload my footage?
Its FAQ says your videos are stored on AWS servers and used for your projects within Imagen Video, and its Assistant Editor starts with you uploading your footage (imagen-ai.com/video, read 2026-10-10). Basecut does not upload your original files. Argus, Basecut's own AI, runs on your computer. Basecut Cloud on paid plans and your own Gemini key are options for computers that cannot run Argus, and they send short reduced-size sections to Google.
Does Imagen Video work with Final Cut Pro?
Imagen's video page names Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve and does not name Final Cut Pro (read 2026-10-10). Basecut opens a run in Final Cut Pro with keyword collections, Favorite and Reject ratings and one .cube file per clip, and it also works with Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
